Healthy relationships includes healthy connections and accountability. You don’t have to be a better version of yourself by yourself.
Most recently, we discussed how your diet, working out, and even your personal reading list can positively impact your health in this new year. Stay tuned to our site’s offerings to help you stay on track.
Whether it be family, friends, or a significant other, it’s important to align yourself with a community that supports your growth. Here are a few tips I’ve uncovered as I’ve worked to identify relationships that support the best version of myself:
1. Find people who hold you accountable, rather than those that are agreeable.
2. A fitness routine shared with a partner can improve your outcome overtime.
3. There is a difference between codependency and support.
4. Healthy connections help you achieve your goals, one step at a time.
It’s important to love who you are, and even more so to be surrounded by people who love the version of yourself that makes you feel whole. During the late winter months, many couples and families are focused on expressing love for one another. What better time is there to reaffirm a connection with your partner than Valentine’s Day and in the final weeks of winter?
Take this opportunity to find workout activities that include those most important to you. One of my favorite workout regimes is yoga. While relaxing and centering, the practice of yoga is a great way to stay active and requires limited workout equipment. This practice can really help you establish healthy patterns that will support your wellness goals.
The right partner can hold you accountable.
Accountability ensures that you reach the goal line. As I’ve traversed along my personal wellness journey—including the ebbs and flows that come along with it—I’ve learned that having someone to share my experience alongside me is priceless. I enjoy having peers around me to cheer me on, to help me focus, and to make me want to continue forward.
Healthy eating, working out, and discussing some of my favorite readings with someone makes my wellness journey more enjoyable. As you select your diet program from BistroMD and snacks by Built Bar, make it fun and include others in your journey.
Have you considered a meal home delivery option? Another go-to of mine is Sun Basket, a healthy home meal delivery service that can provide healthy food options right to your doorstep. Shared fitness goals can strengthen your bond.
As you continue in developing a healthy lifestyle and are keen on making the right choices, your partner can be a key ingredient to your success. Focusing on your fitness training with someone who supports your vision.
Starting a yoga practice from home or safely within a gym can be a key part of your success, if this is your chosen path, why do it alone?
The progress you make with your chosen partner can fortify your commitment to one another, and help you get to know each other on a deeper level. When you share goals and build together, you share a different type of intimacy.
Codependency versus Support
Depending on someone as you workout and adjust your eating habits is important, just as I’ve said. However, seeking support and bonding with a partner is one thing, however it is quite another to become too reliant on that person(s) that you lose sight of yourself as you seek your goals. It’s important to find balance.
Don’t forget to maintain your sense of self as you deepen the connections in your relationships.
One Step at a Time
Your wellness journey is not a race, and you define the pace. As you work towards a better version of yourself, remember that it’s not imperative that you hit a certain date to unveil a different, renewed version of yourself.
Remember, it takes at least 21 days to change and adopt new habits. Having support along the way with relationships that lift you higher will make the journey that more fruitful.
Overwhelming yourself with schedules and rigid boundaries can detract from growth. That adds weight to the process. And, isn’t the ultimate point to lose weight and become healthier? So, let’s get to it. Let’s improve your personal vibe.
“Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.”
– Oprah Winfrey
Personal vibe is a new concept, and one we’ll cover in future posts. Your renewed, healthy lifestyle is part of your vibe, and your relationships impact that flair. So, be sure to choose wisely and intentionally.
This winter can still be enjoyable, even if workout regimens look different from preconceived norms. Your relationships with others, including your partner and peers, can help you stay the course, catalyze growth, and have a positive impact on your wellness goals. Choosing to be a part of a community that shares and embraces the vision you have for yourself is an important part of getting to where you want to be.
Go further, higher, better together this Valentine’s Day and beyond. Love is about acceptance and compassion. Having someone(s) to share the journey with makes it that much sweeter. And remember, you also have to love yourself. Your reflection should empower you- that’s part of self-love.
We’re just scratching the surface, and there are more tips to come. Be sure to follow along and tell a friend or two to do the same.
